Health System Launches Health Plan to Support the Underserved

As part of a commitment to meeting the healthcare needs of the region’s most vulnerable children, Nicklaus Children’s Health System in 2018 was awarded a contract by the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (ACHA) to serve Medicaid beneficiaries and provide physical and behavioral health services through Florida’s Statewide Medicaid Managed Care (SMMC) Program.

Miami Children's Health Plan launched operations on December 1, 2018 and currently serves more than 13,000 Medicaid beneficiaries in seven South Florida counties.

Participating in the Miami Children's Health Plan network are more than 4,100 providers, including more than 800 licensed primary care providers, over 1,200 specialists and 35 hospitals.

“By launching a Medicaid health plan, we have a tremendous opportunity to meet comprehensively the healthcare needs of the most underserved and vulnerable members of our community," said Michael Minor, President of Miami Children’s Health Plan.
