The Nursing Department at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital consistently supports and encourages nurses in their efforts to take part in research to continuously improve their processes and be innovators in their field. This, in turn, aligns with the departmental goal of providing the highest quality patient care possible. Building Research Infrastructure in a Clinical Setting: Role-Modeling for Future Nurse Scientists

As both a pediatric nurse practitioner and an outcomes researcher, Dr. Sarik applies her clinical expertise as well as advanced training in health services research to her role. In her position as Research Nurse Scientist at Nicklaus, she directs nursing research for the institution, providing direct support to clinical nurses interested in completing research and evidence-based practice and building infrastructure across the hospital to support research endeavors.

This position allows Dr. Sarik to successfully implement research from within the clinical setting, quickly moving evidence and into action. Dr. Sarik's personal research focuses on methods to improve the transition from hospital to home and nursing workforce development. She is particularly interested in the role of the nurse in health transitions, as nurses provide the majority of discharge teaching and education in the acute setting.
