Welcome to the 2022 Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Nursing Report! In the following pages, we’ll share some of the recent successes of our award-winning nursing team and show how we continue to improve our care to the community each and every day.

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

On behalf of the entire team of nurses of Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, I’m proud to share our 2022 report to the community. While there’s no question that the COVID-19 pandemic presented great challenges to our profession, the last two years have shown our resilience and ability to bounce back from these challenges through hard work, innovation and dedication to our patients.

Throughout this report, you’ll receive glimpses into the hearts, minds and caring hands of our remarkable Nicklaus Children’s nurses, who commit themselves daily to improving care practice and the patient experience at our beloved hospital. You’ll also get a sense of the devotion and keen intellect of our nurses as they drive research and institute change. Nurses were at the forefront of several major advances over the past year, including:

  • Reducing patient wait times and the number of patients who leave without being seen
  • Improving nausea and vomiting treatment after procedures
  • Providing new parent telemedicine support through the Baby Steps program
  • Promoting breastfeeding both on site and in the community
  • Bestowing new awards to nurses who embody excellent performance in their fields
  • Enhancing patient safety with instructions on the proper use of car seats
  • Stepping up the level of care for patients with diabetes
  • Reducing the length of hospital stays for patients who are ready to be discharged early

As you read through this report, you’ll see how our nursing team played a key role in driving these initiatives and more to help Nicklaus Children’s Hospital provide the best pediatric care possible.

Our organization’s top commitment is to put patients and families first in all that we do. Whether they are here for a routine checkup or a challenging procedure and inpatient stay, it’s our honor to provide clinical expertise and dedicated care to see them through their healthcare journeys. As pediatric nurses, we have the opportunity daily to make a difference in the lives of children and their families.

Sincerely,

portrait.
